Not a Submariner in different clothes

The Yacht-Master shares a case diameter with the Submariner and almost nothing else. Its bezel is bidirectional rather than one-way, raised and fully polished, with the 60-minute numerals engraved into metal and standing proud instead of sunk into a ceramic insert. The dial sits behind that ring with wider hour markers. Sixteen references here, all $1,199.

The 116622 is the platinum-bezel steel model with the dark rhodium dial. The 116621 is the Rolesor version, steel case with a rose gold bezel and the chocolate brown dial. Both are 40 mm. The reference difference — 21 versus 22 — is the metal combination, not the size or movement.

Finish and function

A polished raised bezel shows every flaw, so the sandblasted numerals have to contrast cleanly against the mirror ground around them. On the 116622 those numerals sit proud of that ground and the contrast holds under indoor light instead of washing into the polish. Cases use 904L steel where the reference calls for it, with sapphire crystal and anti-reflective coating, and a Cyclops over the date.

The movement is a Swiss-grade clone automatic with around 48 hours of reserve. A Japanese Miyota automatic can be chosen instead on each product page, for $620. Water resistance is everyday level, roughly 50 metres. Regatta styling does not make it a diving watch — keep it out of the pool.
