Reading the reference

Submariner numbers move in generations. Five digits with an 8 in front — 16800, 16613 — are the older transitional and two-tone cases, which wore aluminium bezel inserts. Six digits starting 114 or 116 are the ceramic-bezel era: 114060 is the no-date, 116610LV the green Hulk with matching green dial, 116610LN its black sibling. The 16613 is the steel-and-gold two-tone with the blue dial and bezel. Our list of 20 covers that spread rather than stacking one dial in ten colours.

One exception worth stating plainly: the 16800 listed here carries a black ceramic insert rather than the aluminium the original wore. That is a build choice, not a claim about the reference. On the 114 and 116 clones the insert is ceramic with recessed engraved markings, matching the source.

Case and movement spec

904L steel on the models that use it, sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, Cyclops magnification over the date on the date references and none on the 114060. On the 16613 the gold tone is plated over steel. Case profiles follow the 40 mm originals, including crown guard width and lug drill treatment where the reference calls for it.

Inside is a Swiss-grade clone automatic, roughly 48 hours of power reserve; a Japanese Miyota automatic can be chosen instead on each product page, for $620. Water resistance is about 50 metres, everyday only — hand washing and rain. Do not dive with it. That is the one place where a clone Submariner cannot follow the original, and pretending otherwise ruins watches.
